Recently, the Department of Kashmir Tourism hosted a winter sports event at Gulmarg with the Snow Shoe run and skiing.
Mahmood A Shah, Director Tourism Kashmir flagged off the run close to the Gulmarg ski shop and the athletes started running 7kms on the beaten track.
The Snowshoe Federation of India arranged the event in partnership with J&K Tourism. In the snowshoe running, over thirty two athletes participated that involved approximately 7 kilometers of snowshoeing.
Afterward Director Tourism simultaneously flagged off skiing at the slopes signaling the start of the winter sports in Gulmarg.
Huge number of locals as well as visitors had assembled at Gulmarg to see snow capped meadows and enjoy skiing as well.
While talking to the press on the occasion, the Director Tourism mentioned that Gulmarg is an important tourism attraction which attracts tourists from all over the globe.
He explained that the department is arranging other exciting activities like snowboarding, ice-staking, heli-skiing in addition to the musical events during winter months to lure tourists.
Director Tourism Kashmir said the footfall of visitors has grown considerably with the recent snowfall and more and more bookings are being anticipated on Christmas and also on New Year.
“We are not only promoting Gulmarg but also Pahalgam as a winter sports destination where winter sports activities like skiing and ice-climbing from December 31, have been planned “ said Director.
Mahmood Shah explained that the snowshoe is a well-liked sport and daily activity in Europe and America and department is endorsing it in state ever since last three years by organizing multiple events.
