Ockhi: Schoolchildren come up with help

Students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Akkulam, have come to the aid of Ockhi-affected families.

At a function held at the school in connection with Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan Foundation Day on December 15, Principal Jose Mathew and representatives of the teachers and students handed over a cheque for ₹1,05,000 to Minister for Cooperation Kadakampally Surendran towards the Chief Minister’s disaster relief fund.

Another cheque for ₹1,05,000 was handed over to Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College Hospital Superintendent Dr Sharmad M.S. towards the hospital’s Donors Account, at the same function.

On the occasion, the Minister gave away prizes and awards for students and teachers who have excelled in academic and co-curricular activities during the academic year.

The students of Kilimanoor Thattathumala Kailasamkunnu PV LP school donated ₹14,560 towards Okhi cyclone relief to the Chief Minister’s relief fund. The fund was collected in the name of Nanma club, formed in the school to encourage charitable activities among students.

The students heading the club, Vibhal Babu, Akshara, Krishnaja and Soofiya Beevi, all Class 3 and 4 students, had written to the Chief Minister, that they would also like to pitch in to help the families who had lost their loved ones in the sea during the cyclone. The fund was collected from 220 students.
