Cold wave sweeps Capital, nearby districts

People experienced cold wave conditions in the provisional State capital as the mercury level dropped a few notches to a minimum temperature of six degree Celsius  here on Sunday.

Fog/dense fog is likely to occur in the morning hours in some parts of the plains across Uttarakhand, especially in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts with ground frost at isolated places in the mountainous regions in the morning hours during next 24  hours.

Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre Director Bikram Singh has forecast dry weather till December 20. Fog/shallow fog occurred in some parts of plains of Uttarakhand on Sunday. The climate having turned colder, many preferred to bask in the sunlight or remain indoors later. Some days ago, the municipal corporation put in place wood stoves at 10 prominent public places in the provisional State capital.

In the State, the highest maximum temperature 24.9°C was recorded at Pantnagar while the lowest minimum temperature 3.2°C was recorded at Mukteshwar on Sunday. On the same day, the maximum temperature and minimum temperatures were recorded at 24.9 degree Celsius (three notches above the normal) and 6 degree Celsius (one notch below normal) respectively in Dehradun.

 In Pantnagar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 18.6 degree Celsius (four notches below the normal) and 4 degree Celsius (two notches below the normal) respectively.

In Mukteshwar, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 16.7 degree Celsius (three notches above the normal) and 5.3 degree Celsius (two notches above the normal).

In Tehri, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 17.8 degree Celsius and 5 degree Celsius respectively. Singh said that the weather forecast for Dehradun on Monday is clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 24 degree Celsius and 6 degree Celsius respectively here on Monday.
