WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man who leapt into bitterly cold water at a marina to rescue an elderly man is being hailed as a lifesaver.

Tate Tetreault says he heard a cry for help at the Warwick marina early Sunday morning and quickly jumped in to grab the man and pull him to safety. Fire officials say he likely saved the life of the man who police say is in his 70s.

Tetreault tells WLNE-TV the marina is quiet this time of year, so he knew there wasn't anybody else around to help.

Warwick firefighters tell WJAR-TV the man had been in the water for about 90 minutes. He was taken to a hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
