Ahmedabad: Hailing Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh, party chief Amit Shah on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s development agenda had beaten politics of caste and dynasty.

In a series of tweets, Shah said: “BJP’s win in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh Assembly polls is the victory of PM Narendra Modi’s development over casteism and dynasty politics.”

“The victory in Gujarat is the result of PM Modi’s popularity and the belief of the common people in the welfare schemes of the central and state governments,” he added.

Shah congratulated state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel, state party chief Jitu Vaghani and all party workers.

He also thanked the voters of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh for bestowing their trust in the BJP.

After trailing for a while, the BJP is all set to retain power in Gujarat and from the next government in Himachal Pradesh.

Trends from counting centres across Gujarat put BJP candidates ahead in 100 seats while Congress nominees were forging ahead in 80 constituencies. The Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats.

After surprisingly leading over the BJP at one point and sending the stock market crashing, the Congress began to trail to the BJP again.

The BJP won 115 seats and the Congress 61 in 2012.

Rupani too trailed at one time in Rajkot West but managed to reverse the situation after a while and ultimately won, the officials said.

As overjoyed Congress activists, expecting a victory, began celebrating early in the day, the stock markets took a beating. But the Congress celebrations were shortlived — and the stock markets made a quick recovery.
