Operation to capture elephant continues

Action begins: Trained elephants that have been brought to capture the wild elephant in Ubrani village in Chennagiri taluk of Davangere district on Sunday.

As many as seven trained elephants, including Abhimanyu from the Dubare camp and Geeta and Ganga from the Sakrebail forest area, have been brought to Davangere district to capture the wild elephant that has been creating havoc in Chennagiri taluk of the district and Holalkere taluk of Chitradurga district for the last one month.

So far, the wild elephant has killed two persons and injured 10 in different parts of the twin districts.

The injured persons are in serious condition in different hospitals in Davangere and Shivamogga districts. It has also damaged crops on several acres of land and also injured some animals in the villages.

A total of 60 staff, including mahouts, have joined the operation to capture the wild elephant.

Thhe officials started the operation in Ubrani village in Chennagiri taluk, about 17 km from Bhadra forest area, on Sunday morning. However, they could not trace the wild elephant till evening, but the operation is continuing.
