Italy's foreign trade surplus increased in October from a year ago, as exports grew faster than imports, figures from the statistical office Istat showed Monday.
The trade surplus rose to EUR 4.95 billion in October from EUR 4.19 billion in the corresponding month last year. In September, the surplus was EUR 3.99 billion.
Both exports and imports surged by 11.3 percent and 10.4 percent, respectively in October from last year.
On a monthly basis, exports increased only 0.5 percent and imports climbed by 2.6 percent.
The trade balance with EU countries resulted in a surplus of EUR 666 million versus EUR 390 million a year earlier. The non-EU trade surplus increased to EUR 4.29 billion from EUR 3.80 billion.
