Be proud of speaking in Tamil, says High Court judge R Mahadevan

RAMANATHAPURAM:Presiding over the conference on Tamil literature held here on Sunday, High Court judge, Justice R Mahadevan, said that it was the duty of the Tamils to rescue the Tamil language from the domination of English and that the Tamils, much like the Chinese and the Japanese,  should be proud of speaking in their mother tongue rather than in English.

In the event organised to remember T Kuzhanthai Chettiar, who was the vice-chairman of the Ramanathapuram Tamil Sangam, Mahadevan said, “While the Prime Minister of China is visiting India, he takes help of a translator, who translates the remarks and speeches of Indian leaders into Chinese. Japan has plans to spread their ideologies throughout the world. (People of) both the countries do not hesitate to talk in their own languages.”

He advised the women to be like those, who were living as equals to men, in the Sangam era and not to get addicted to the television, which he said destroyed the good thoughts of people. “The Sangam era, in which the women did not need any reservation in the society and exercised their rights on their own, would return if the women followed the Tamil culture without (any) deviation,” he said.
