BENGALURU: “Next, shall we move to Bengaluru?” wonders the team of whitewalkers, to which Arya responds, “No, @blrcitypolice crossed 1 Million, they are more active.”

The meme based on the famous fantasy series on television Game of Thrones was posted on Facebook page of Bengaluru City Police (BCP) recently.City Police have reached a major milestone in social media interactions with the public as their Twitter handle crossed one million followers recently.

BCP has now more followers on Twitter than New York Police Department or City of London Police. Mumbai Police have 4.09 million followers, the highest number of followers on Twitter. Bengaluru City Police are most followed on Facebook. In Twitter, trailing Mumbai police in second and third places are Bengaluru and Delhi police. While BCP have little over a million followers, Delhi Traffic Police were close behind with 9,99,000+ followers. On Facebook, the city police have 6,15,000 followers, followed by Mumbai Police with 4,88,000, and 2,55,000 of Delhi Traffic Police.

Over the years, the social media team of Bengaluru police has played an important role in bridging the divide between the public and police, and the tech-savvy wing celebrated the achievement of one million followers on Twitter recently with lots of memes and posts on social sites.

One of such posts read: “Society has become a part of the Police by constantly providing information, advice & creating a bond of friendship. You have also helped in solving/investigating crime, enhancing smooth flow of traffic & written a new chapter on our vision of “Citizen Friendly Policing” #BCP1Million.(sic)”.
