To the Editor:

Ending the practice of putting the county executive’s name on every official park sign would appear to be a small step (“New Nassau County Executive Goes From Bylines to Bylaws and Bipartisanship,” news article, Dec. 11). But by refusing to put her name front and center, Laura Curran, the newly elected Nassau County executive, is saying the parks belong to the people, not to the executive.

So a small step, yes, but a careful, considered and important message to send: With a woman, politics will be different. May her example be one that is imitated by others, whatever the gender or party.
