Ghent-Fertility And Stem cell Team, Department for Reproductive Medicine,
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University Hospital Ghent, BELGIUM
The research group of Prof. Björn Heindryckx is seeking a talented and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to join their team.
Our research is both clinically and fundamentally oriented. We are interested in the diagnosis and new treatments for infertile patients, as well as understanding the regulation and functional characterization of mouse and human embryonic stem cells. Our stem cell research is primarily focused on differentiating patient-specific stem cells towards gametes (oocytes), as well as deriving stem cells in various culture conditions and studying the early stages of human in vitro development.
The postdoctoral candidate will focus on the culture and molecular analysis of human embryonic stem cells and their derivatives, including primordial germ cell like cells (PGCLCs) and further maturation towards oocytes. Next to oocyte, embryo and cell culture, the principal molecular techniques that will be used include FACS, RNAseq, DNAseq, CHiPseq, qRT-PCR, Western blot and immunostaining. The successful candidate will work together with an inspiring, international team of researchers, which currently encompasses 12 members, at the Ghent University Hospital.
The candidate is required to hold a PhD degree in the field of stem cell biology, embryology, developmental biology, molecular biology or equivalent. The candidate should have a strong molecular background and relevant experience in the areas of stem cell biology, developmental biology, molecular cell biology, bio-informatics and/or embryology; an excellent publication record including first-authored publications and very good communication and writing skills in English. The candidate should also have hands on experience in human pluripotent stem cell maintenance and differentiation, and/or methods in molecular biology. The candidate will be expected to design, conduct and troubleshoot experiments, collect and analyze data for publication and grant applications, present research at national and international meetings and prepare manuscripts for publication.
Please send your CV, a letter outlining your research experience, career goals and contact details of two academic referees to Björn HEINDRYCKX (Bjorn.Heindryckx@UGent.be) before February 15th, 2018.
