AL AIN: The Al Ain Public Prosecution charged a 30-year-old Asian with premeditatedly murdering his roommate after a drunken dispute.

On being questioned by the prosecution, the suspect said he was drinking alcohol with the victim, when a dispute involving another friend started. During the sequence of events, the victim grabbed him by the neck, sat on his chest and assaulted him.

He said that he attempted to defend himself by pushing the victim, but in vain. He thus picked up a knife and stabbed him in the chest. He confessed to accidentally murdering his roommate.

The court pointed out that a dispute erupted between the suspect and the victim, whereby the suspect stabbed the victim twice in his chest. The victim consequently bled to death.

The defendant denied the charge of premeditated murder throughout the court sessions. The court indicated that since there no proof of premeditation, the suspect should not be sentenced to retribution.

The court jailed him for 15 years to be followed by deportation and ordered the confiscation of the knife, in addition to Diya of Dhs200,000 for the crime of assault leading to death and drinking alcohol without a licence.
