‘Strong policies needed to check pollution’

The world is inching towards devastation for climate change caused by pollution. If strong policies are not adopted world over, the entire living habitats will be annihilated sooner than later.

Experts viewed this at an awareness campaign, ‘Pollution and Climate Change’, organised by the ‘Drushtanta’ here on Sunday.

Quoting the report of the ‘Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health’, they said India is now witnessing highest number of pollution-related deaths.

Drushtanta secretary Abinash Mohapatra, Tanjuja Dash, Mantu Nayak, Amaresh Mohapatra, Bikram Dash, Nihar Samal and Ashok Sahoo were present, among others.

A proposal of 15 necessary steps was presented on the occasion.

They are organic living, natural habitation, huge plantation, eco-friendly public transport system, cycle riding, no industrialisation near residential areas, zero use of plastic bags and disposable items, promotion of eco-friendly products, establishment of waste management plants and water treatment plants, 100 per cent drainage system in all urban areas, water conservation system, ban on firecrackers, no use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides and adoption of compulsory pollution measures for all the civil construction works.
