Environment Canada issued a freezing rain warning for the Kingston, Ont., area on Monday. 

Snow falling in eastern Ontario cities along Highway 401 will turn to freezing rain in the afternoon, the weather agency said in a news release.

The weather warning is in effect for:

  • Kingston - Odessa - Frontenac Islands.
  • Napanee - Consecon​.
  • Picton - Sandbanks Park.

Several millimetres of freezing rain may accumulate before it ends later Monday evening.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery," Environment Canada said. 

The agency is asking drivers to slow down and keep an eye on vehicles ahead.
