Q: Tim O'Brien back on Oct. 21, 2011 addressed a concern regarding a traffic light at the intersection of Consaul Road and Waterman Avenue in Colonie.

It appears a traffic light may be in the works as over the last couple of months, there has been construction activity at the intersection.

Can you confirm if this is the case?

— John Blakley, Colonie

Here's the question from 2011: I have been wondering why on earth there is no traffic light at the dangerous intersection of Consaul Road and Waterman Avenue in Colonie (entrance to the Lisha Kill Middle School area and Partridge Run development) when there is a traffic light on Sand Creek Road and Sunset!

We live on Vanessa Court, and it is extremely challenging (and stressful) turning left out of our development on school days. Making matters worse, the house on the corner of Vanessa and Waterman is not good about keeping their shrubs trimmed, and if you drive a low car (non-SUV) it can be very difficult to see past them to judge oncoming traffic.

I am a seasoned driver and loathe getting out of our development in the mornings and when there are school events, so you can imagine my concern now that my 16-year-old daughter has her license. Can you look into why there is no traffic light?

What to watch for this week:

Route 396, Selkirk: Between Speeder and Pictuay roads, traffic is reduced to a single alternating lane controlled by traffic signals for a culvert repair. The reduction is expected to last several weeks.

— Karen Smith, Colonie

A: A traffic light is in the works, according to Jack Cunningham, Colonie's commissioner of public works.

When this issue was raised six years ago, the town cited a traffic study from 2009 of the intersection at Waterman Avenue, Consaul Road and Vanessa Court, which determined that the area didn't require an additional traffic light.

That study included a traffic count and a review of incident reports at that intersection.

In the years since, Colonie's continued growth and development has altered traffic patterns, which prompted the town to act and install a traffic signal at the intersection.

"The light will be operational by the end of the year," Cunningham said.
