10 killed in stampede at Ctg ex-mayor Mohiuddin's qulkhwani

At least 10 people were killed over 50 were injured in a stampede at the qulkhwani arranged for former Chittagong Mayor Mohiuddin Chowdhury on Monday.

The incident took place at Rima Community Centre at Jamal Khan Road in the port city in the afternoon .

Witnesses said the number of death could rise.

The identities of the deceased could not be known yet.

The former Chittagong Mayor and city Awami League President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury died at early hours on December 15.

Marking the qulkhwani of the populist leader, mezbans were arranged at 14 venues across the port city for people of all communities. Of which, mezban was arranged for non-muslims at Rima Community Centre, said a local source.

CMP Commissioner Iqbal Bahar visited the spot immediately after the incident.

Talking to media, he said the accident took place while many people were trying to get into the community centre at a time through a small gate. There was no lack of security, he added.
