Bail of Apan Jewellers owners stayed

The Supreme Court today stayed till December 21 a High Court verdict that granted bail to three owners of Apan Jewellers -- Dildar Ahmed, Gulzar Ahmed and Azad Ahmed -- in three separate money laundering cases.

Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division Justice M Imaan Ali passed the order following three separate petitions filed by the government seeking a stay on the High Court verdict.

Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Sazu told The Daily Star that Dildar, Gulzar and Azad cannot get released from jail following the Supreme Court order.

The government will file three leave-to-appeal petitions with the Supreme Court by December 21 challenging the High Court verdict, he said.

On December 14, the High Court granted bail to the three owners in the money-laundering cases.
