Jaipur: The days in December this year across the state have been coldest in the last 15 years. In the month of December the day temperature which generally hovers around 30 degrees Celsius on an average, this year has gone below 25 degrees Celsius. Similar trend is witnessed in almost every district in the state. Also the difference between the day (maximum) and night (minimum) temperatures which is of 20 degrees, this time has been either 15 or below 15 degrees Celsius.
As per the data available with the IMD, the mean maximum temperature for Jaipur is 24.4 degrees Celsius, however, this year so far it has been below 24 degrees Celsius. Also in the month of December Jaipur's maximum temperature from 2002 to 2016 was either 30 degrees Celsius and not below 26 degrees Celsius.
"This year the maximum temperature in Jaipur and also in other parts of the state including Churu which regularly remains coldest has been below 24 degrees Celsius. The days this year in the month of December so far have been coldest. Good rainfall, presence of moisture and the active northerly winds are the main reasons why not only in Rajasthan the maximum temperatures in northern India are lowest," said an officer with the IMD, Delhi on Monday.
Met office further stated that usually a difference of 20 degrees Celsius or higher is witnessed between maximum and minimum temperatures, however, this year so far at places like Sriganganagar the difference is as low as 12 degrees Celsius. "Places like Sriganganagar and Churu witnessed maximum temperatures of 16 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius, respectively and minimum temperatures of 4 degrees Celsius and 1.8 degrees Celsius, respectively. It shows that the difference in day and night temperatures is around 12 degrees Celsius for Sriganganagar and 14 degrees Celsius in Churu," said a senior officer of Jaipur Met office.
