MAPUSA: Mapusa police have arrested the sixth accused person in the Verla-Canca bank robbery case.
The accused,
Angrez Das, 29, a native of
Bihar, was arrested by the team of Mapusa police led by PI Tushar Lotlikar at
Dodamarg in Maharashtra. Acting on a specific tip-off, Mapusa police laid a trap and arrested Angrez on Saturday night. Police sources said that Angrez, who was running a fast food business at Dodamarg, was absconding following the dacoity. On Saturday, he returned back to his business and was arrested.
Angrez was remanded to 10 days in police custody by judicial magistrate first class, Mapusa. Sources said police are on the lookout for two other accused, Vijay Das and Sunil Das, in this connection.
Police recovered a stolen
gold chain and cell phone from the accused. With the arrest of Angrez, police have arrested six accused persons in this dacoity case including the mastermind. Two accused were arrested at the crime site by the police with the assistance of local residents, the mastermind was nabbed at Bambolim, while two other accused were traced at Banka district in Bihar by Bihar police. The five other accused were earlier sent to police custody.
Police have also recovered the cash that was attempted to be stolen from the bank, two country-made pistols along with four live rounds used in the crime. Police have made full recovery of items stolen except for cash of Rs 7,000 which was taken from a customer after taking him hostage, said sources.
The prime accused,
Rajkumar Das, 33, a native of Bihar, was residing at
Canca for the past 10 years and operating a fast food centre at Porvorim. He is married to a local girl, police sources said.
Rajkumar, the mastermind of the crime, had hired hardcore dacoits from Bihar. The dacoits had come down to Goa by train on December 4.
