Event organised by Delhi Police, NGO

In an effort to spread awareness on gender equality and stop crimes against women, the Delhi Police organised a half-marathon — ‘Run For Laadli’— on Sunday morning.

The initiative was taken by the Delhi Police in association with Laadli Foundation Trust — a Delhi-based NGO. Around 15,000 people from various walks of life participated in the run that started from JLN Stadium.

Change in mindset

The races were flagged off by Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Social justice minister Thawar Chand Gehlot and Member of Parliament Priyanka Singh Rawat were also present at the event. “The society has to change its mindset towards women. We have to empower women and girls who are a pillar of strength to their family and society as a whole. Sensitisation can’t be induced through speeches, the society itself needs to realise the importance of it,” said Mr. Singh.

The participants took a pledge in the presence of the Home Minister to protect women and to raise voice against domestic violence and other crimes against women.

The event also saw the presence of sportspersons, athletes, 2,500 police personnel and school children.

“Women’s safety has always been a top priority of the Delhi Police. Our initiatives such as Sashakti, Women PCR Van, Anti-Obscene Call Helpline and Himmat App have led to reduction in crimes against women,” said Amulya Patnaik, Commissioner of Delhi Police.
