DUBAI: An inebriated meat cleaver-wielding defendant insulted and vowed to slaughter his ex-wife along with her children if she rebuffed his sexual advances, a jury heard on Sunday.

The unemployed Arab man, 47, landed at the Dubai Criminal Court over four counts of abusing alcohol, threatening and insulting the Emirati housewife, 43, and damaging a police patrol vehicle.

The incident happened in Al Quoz residential area-4 at around 7am on Mar.26. The defendant acknowledged the incident, but argued he was too drunk to understand what he was doing.

“I was wrong and I beg the jury to forgive me,” he expressed remorse then presented a waiver he obtained from the ex-wife. Prosecutors demanded a tough penalty. The ruling will be on Dec.27.

The ex-wife narrated that in the morning when the children left for school, the defendant arrived knocking on of the salon’s door while calling upon her to come to him for a physical affair.

“I refused to open…Through the door glass I saw he had a waiver…I spotted there was a bottle of alcohol in front of the house’s attachment.” (The defendant was staying in the attachment)

“Several minutes later, he banged the door again while calling me a streetwalker and insulting that I had no honour. He shouted that ‘Come to me or else I slaughter you and slaughter your children’.”

An Indonesian maid said she also heard him banging the door while calling the housewife for an affair. “If you refuse to come and we sleep in the house’s attachment, I will slaughter you and your children,” he vowed.

The maid added that the defendant accused the housewife of streetwalking as he brandished a meat cleaver. “There were a small knife and a bottle of alcohol in front of the attachment,” the maid explained.

An Emirati corporal said he was on duty in a patrol vehicle when his senior dispatched him to the crime scene. “I arrived and took the defendant inside the vehicle. He was smelling alcohol. He shouted and repeatedly kicked the vehicle’s left rear door so hard that he rendered it unfit for use.”
