Workshop on ‘Nematode Problems of Agricultural & Horticultural Crops’ held

JAMMU: Two days workshop on Nematode Problems of Agricultural and Horticultural Crops and Their Management was organised by State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute-Jammu (SAMETI-J) in collaboration with AICRP -Nematodes, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, here at SKUAST-J campus. The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. P.K Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-J.
In his address, Dr Sharma laid emphasis on the need to combat the problem of nematodes for better return to the farmers and reducing the production loss caused by various nematodes.
Dr. K.S Risam, Director SAMETI-J/ Extension welcomed the dignitaries and gave the background for organising the workshop in view of the issue raised by various field functionaries in one of the ZREAC meetings.
Dr. R.K Walia, Project Coordinator, AICRP on Nematodes IARI, New Delhi along with his team of scientists participated in the workshop and gave detailed overview of the nematode problems in various crops. He also gave strategies for reducing the loss due to nematode infestation in vegetable and horticulture crops.
R.L Bhagat, Joint Director, Department of Agriculture, Jammu and Tarvinder Singh, Joint Director, Department of Horticulture, Jammu along with about one hundred officers from the line departments participated in the workshop.
The workshop will have various sessions with resource persons from the AICRP, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, CSKHPKV, Palampur and SKUAST-Jammu. An exhibition and on spot diagnostic methods were also demonstrated to the participants of the workshop. Dr V. Kaul and Dr Rajan Salalia from Division of Entomology were the resource persons for this workshop.
