BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The new U.S.S. Little Rock is ready to set sail - now that the crew has had a proper good-bye to Buffalo in the form of a "Sail Away Brunch."
Sunday morning, the crew of the U.S.S. Little Rock, as well as military personnel and civilians, enjoyed brunch at the Harborcenter Marriott Hotel at Canalside.
Saturday's commissioning was history in the making for Buffalo, as the new LCS9 was commissioned alongside its namesake.
Maurice "Moe" Naylon III, Chairman of the Commissioning Committee, says the whole process has been an unforgettable experience. "The bonds that have been formed over these last two years... you couldn't pick two better cities to line up, because Little Rock is a medium-sized southern city, and Buffalo's a medium-sized northern city, but both with very rich heritage, very rich history," Naylon said.
The ship is now preparing to depart from Buffalo, where they will travel down coast to Mayport, Florida, for future combat missions.
