Railway Recruitment Process to Cut Down from Two Years to Six Months Soon

Indian Railways will soon bring down the two year long recruitment process to just six months in the coming time. The new recruitment process will comprise of the online test that will be saving time largely.

This news came soon after the meeting held by Railway board chairman Ashwani Lohani with the general managers after the derailment of the Vasco-Da-Gama-Patna Express on 24 November 2017.

In the meeting, the zonal heads made it a point to raise the question to fill up the vacant posts to avoid such accidents any further. General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway Chahatey Ram, who was present at the meeting, suggested that the process of recruitment takes too long, taking almost two years since submission of application. Many candidates get alternative jobs, leading to poor materialisation of indents (vacancy notice). With online tests etc the process should be speeded up.

According to other general managers present at the meeting, the vacancy notices should be directly placed by RRB rather than going to railway Board that crunches more time in the process. Railway Board has instructed all its departments to submit their respective proposals on this issue by 20 December 2017.

As per official data, Indian railways have staff strength of 1.3 million in December 2016. Around 1,22,911 vacancies in safety categories and 17,464 vacancies in loco running staff is not filled yet. These vacancies range from profiles such as drivers, guards, gangmen and other technical staff.
