A 26-year-old man has been charged over the death of a man in Mount Isa in north-west Queensland on the weekend.

Police and emergency services were called to a home in Emerald Street at Happy Valley early Sunday morning where a 40-year-old man was found unconscious with critical injuries.

Paramedics tried to revive him but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

It is believed the 26-year-old is related to the deceased man.

Mount Isa District Detective Inspector Anne Vogler said on Sunday it was unknown what injuries had been sustained.

"Obviously that is what we will be looking to obtain from an autopsy," she said.

A Happy Valley man is due to appear in the Mount Isa Magistrates Court later today charged with unlawful striking causing death.
