ISLAMABAD: Ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif has accused the Supreme Court of acting on behalf of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

“I had predicted that the judges might end up disqualifying me again in the disqualification cases related to Imran and Jehangir Tareen. The decision in favour of Imran speaks for itself.

“Everything we have said about double standards is being proved right. Each and everything we said after July 28 judgement about the bias of judges has turned out to be correct. The judgement in favour of Imran has exposed the dual standards of justice,” Sharif told reporters before departing London for Pakistan.

Accompanied by his daughter Maryam, the former premier landed in Lahore on Sunday and will appear before an accountability court of Islamabad on Dec.19 in connection with three references against them.

Sharif said that such dual standards will not be tolerated and he would run a strong campaign against it.

“My struggle is for the supremacy of law and the Constitution, and I will pay whatever price it takes but will not let things continue the way they are at present. I will campaign against this kind of justice system nationwide. It cannot go on like this.”

Referring to the Panama Papers case verdict which led to his disqualification from the office of the prime minister, he said his imaginary salary was considered an asset, but transactions worth thousands of pounds conducted through Niazi Services Limited (NSL), which Imran himself confessed to, were not being considered as assets by the judges.

“The Supreme Court gave an explanation on Imran’s behalf and acted as his defence for him,” Sharif said adding, “Imran petitioned against me and sat back while the judges fought the case on Imran’s behalf with full zeal. However, when we petitioned against the PTI chief, the justices became his advocate. What kind of justice is this?”

Expressing his dissatisfaction at the Panama judgement, the ex-premier said a sitting prime minister was disqualified on the basis of “Iqama” and for not withdrawing salary from his son, but Imran, who has confessed to his wrongdoings, has been let off the hook.

He stated that Imran has time and again said that he owns the NSL offshore company and its assets but the apex court acted as his defence.
