Letter writer completely agrees with decision to eliminate remedial classes at CSU.

I want to start by saying I completely agree with the chancellor’s decision to eliminate remedial classes at the CSU. Larry Gerston’s oped (Opinion, Dec. 11) misses the point that for too long standardize admissions tests have been what keeps minorities from achieving academically, in many cases. Give them the chance to compete fairly in class, rather than being separated and put behind the eight ball with no credit classes.

Many first generation students have overcome great obstacles and exceeded even the beliefs of devoted teachers to reach their goals. It’s time to stop putting up hurdles and give these students a chance they deserve, not separated but in the same classroom with everyone else.
