Labourer dies after part of wall collapses in MS Building

BENGALURU: A 42-year-old labourer died after a portion of a wall collapsed on him at MS Building near Vikasa Soudha on Saturday. A room was being renovated and the contractor had not provided any safety gear to the labourers, police said.

The deceased is Kuppaiah, a native of Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, who was living with his wife and two kids in a shed in Uttarahalli.

A senior police officer said the incident occurred at 4.30pm when Kuppaiah along with other workers was demolishing a wall of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department’s office. They were working on the the fourth floor. Meanwhile, a portion of the wall collapsed on Kuppaiah’s chest.

He was rushed to Bowring Hospital where he was declared brought dead. Vidhana Soudha police were alerted. The renovation was being done since a month and police found that the contractor had not taken any safety measures during demolition. He was booked under negligence case.
