Phoenix firefighters were able to prevent an apartment fire near 52nd Avenue and McDowell Road from spreading beyond a single, vacant unit, officials said Sunday.

One, two-story unit in the fourplex was extensively damaged, though nobody was displaced by the fire. Two of the other apartment units were occupied but not damaged, said Capt. Larry Subervi said.

"Firefighters were able to quickly control the fire and prevent the spread to the other attached units," he said.

The fire is under investigation.
