Chennai: The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Sunday said its rivals are trying to stop the RK Nagar by-election by making false charges, as they are afraid of its victory. Talking to mediapersons after meeting special chief electoral officer Vikram Batra at the secretariat in the city, Lok Sabha deputy speaker and senior AIADMK leader M Thambidurai said, "the AIADMK is going to witness a big win in the by-poll, which is why our rivals are attacking our workers and making false accusations against them."

He said that they never induldged in distributing money to voters. "But the opposition members (DMK and rebel AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran's group) are involved in atrocities," he added.

According to Thambidurai, AIADMK candidate E Madhusudhanan, who is also the presidium chairman of the party, will win with a huge margin of over one lakh votes. "Knowing this well, our enemies are creating problems and posing hurdles," he said.

He said that they had complained to the Election Commission about the plans and acts of the opposition and had demanded appropriate action. "We have asked for additional security measures to ensure that voters do their democratic duty without any hindrance," he said.
