Niners cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon will start today against the Titans at Levi’s Stadium after he was listed as questionable with a sprained knee he sustained in last week’s win at Houston.
Meanwhile, backup cornerback Greg Mabin is inactive because of a calf injury he sustained in practice this week. On Saturday, the 49ers promoted corner Tyvis Powell from the practice squad due to their injuries at the position. Leon Hall will presumably serve as the primary backup today.
Witherspoon will start alongside Dontae Johnson, who was benched last week after he committed three penalties while struggling to cover Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.
There are few surprises among the other inactives, which include linebacker Pita Taumoepenu, safety Antone Exum, just-signed wide receiver Max McCraffrey and defensive linemen Leger Douzable, D.J. Jones and Ronald Blair.
The 49ers, who have a host of capable defensive lineman, have decided to keep on Aaron Lynch on the 46-man roster for a second straight week. Tank Carradine, Sheldon Day and Cassius Marsh are also active.
