A woman in Halifax was sent to hospital with a possible broken leg after jumping from her second-storey apartment window to escape a fire on Saturday night.

Firefighters were call to 6095 Coburg Rd., a 10-storey apartment building near the Dalhousie University campus, at 11:30 p.m. Paramedics and police also responded to the call.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency division commander Brad Connors said the fire is believed to have started somewhere in the woman's living room and was contained to the one apartment unit.

"In the middle of the night she got up, saw the fire — I guess it was pretty heavy smoke conditions — and jumped out the window," said Connors.

"EHS got on the scene and took her to hospital."
