DUBAI: Josh Hill of Jumeirah Golf Estates showed his golfing prowess and took victory in the Championship by defeating the best juniors in the UAE in the 9th SGSC Junior Open Golf Championship supported by Ajman Academy and Spectrum Title.
After a promising Men’s Open Championship during the previous weekend, Hill came back with the bit between his teeth.
In the front nine, Hill recorded 3 birdies and 7 pars giving him a 3 under par score.
In the back nine Hill recorded an uncharacteristic double bogey on the 11th hole, but in a true champion’s style he bounced back with a birdy on the par 5, 13th hole to get him back to 2 under par for his round. With a run of five consecutive pars to close out the round, Hill would record a round of 70, 2 under par.
Hill would eventually take the title by a margin of two shots as competitors Arjun Gupta from Emirates Golf Club & William Ang from Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club pushed him as much as they could on the day and posted impressive level par scores of 72.
To determine who would claim the runner-up trophy a scorecard playoff was needed to separate the two young guns. With an accumulative five birdies between the two golfers on the back nine it would go down to the last 3 holes to separate the two and Gupta would come out on top on this occasion.
