Cards kick another FG

Cardinals kicker Phil Dawson kicked his second field goal of the game — this time a 35-yarder — to shrink the Redskins’ lead to 14-6 with 7:35 left in the second quarter.

Quarterback Blaine Gabbert continued to get pummeled on the team’s latest offensive possession, and an incomplete pass on the final play before the field goal was nearly ruled a sack and a fumble.

Cousins finds Bibbs for TD

The Redskins took an 11-point lead over the Cardinals with their second touchdown of the game early in the second quarter on Sunday.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins dropped back in the pocket and dumped a pass to running back Kapri Bibbs, who blazed through defenders for a 36-yard touchdown that gave the Redskins a 14-3 lead.

It was Cousins second touchdown pass of the game — and the second of Bibbs’ career, as the 24-year-old was just activated off the team’s practice squad prior to the game.

End 1: Redskins 7, Cardinals 3

The Cardinals rattled off 15 plays on the ensuing drive and ended it with a 40-yard field goal by kicker Phil Dawson.

Long drive ends in FG for Cards

A 15-play drive by the Cardinals resulted in a 40-yard field goal by kicker Phil Dawson as the Redskins’ lead was trimmed to 7-3 late in the first quarter.

Arizona started at its own 17-yard line but sustained offensive rhythm to break into Redskins’ territory. However, the Cardinals offensive line couldn’t hold together and quarterback Blaine Gabbert was sacked twice on the final two plays of the drive.

Gabbert has now been sacked four times over two possessions in the game.

Redskins strike first

The Cardinals aren’t off to a great start on Sunday in Landover, Md.

On the first possession of the game, Cardinals quarterback Blaine Gabbert was sacked on 3rd-and-7 by the Redskins’ Preston Smith and fumbled the ball. Washington’s Anthony Lanier recovered the turnover and brought it to the Arizona 6-yard line.

After a 1-yard rush to start the possession, Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins tossed a 5-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jamison Crowder to give Washington a 7-0 lead early in the first.

Jones looks to continue stellar season

The sack was Jones' 14th on the season, a mark that currently leads the NFL.

In fact, since being acquired by the Cardinals before the 2016 season, Jones leads the NFL in sacks (25.0) and tackles for loss (39).

Cardinals are road warriors under Arians

Since Bruce Arians took over as head coach in 2013, the Cardinals have the seventh-best regular season road winning percentage (.526) in the NFL.

Arians' 20 road wins over that span are a franchise record.

The Cardinals have fared particularly well on the road versus NFC East opponents such as the Redskins, as they are 6-3 against them during Arians' tenure.

With a win on Sunday, Arians would tie Ken Whisenhunt for the franchise all-time wins list with 49.
