Follow-up to a tribal youth falling sick after drinking water from well

An incident of violence in Rampur tanda in Sirikonda mandal Adilabad district on Sunday left a few houses ransacked allegedly by Adivasi villagers of Nizamguda in the same mandal.

The incident, which has its genesis in another one which had taken place the previous night, comes as an evidence of the mutual distrust between the Adivasis and Lambada plains tribe in erstwhile undivided Adilabad district and is a pointer towards miscreants being active in the Agency areas, according to a police officer deployed in the trouble hit area.

Poisoning suspected

An aboriginal youth from Nizamguda who had consumed water from a local drinking water well on Saturday night reported sick, the symptoms being that of poisoning. A complaint was lodged on Sunday morning following which Revenue and police officials inspected the well and are reported to have arrived a conclusion that the water was poisoned with pesticides.

The Adivasis suspected villagers from nearby Rampur tanda to have poisoned the water and their suspicion was brought to the notice of authorities. In the afternoon however, they are reported to have marched towards the tanda and ransacked a few houses and burnt some quantity of harvested cotton.

Picket stationed

Police personnel headed by Nizamabad Commissioner of Police Kartikeya arrived at the village and inquired into the matter. A picket was stationed.

Meanwhile, Adivasis called off a rasta roko planned at Gudihatnoor on NH 44 to protest the arrest of former MLAs Athram Sakku and Soyam Bapu Rao at Hyderabad.

They dropped their plan when they got the news that the leaders had been released by the police.
