Chandigarh: The Punjab government is going to consider the liability of the Panjab University (PU) for the implementation of the seventh
pay commission, said university vice-chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover during the senate meeting on Saturday. Grover said the chief secretary of Punjab has told him that the government would consider the liability of the university with the other universities of Punjab.
Grover said the university is an inter-state corporate body. However, the Centre has cleared that for PU, the state notionally means the Punjab government. The university can implement the seventh pay commission only after being notified by the Punjab government. However, PUTA president Rajesh Gill said since 100% salaries of the university staff are being paid by the Cenre, there was no need to postpone the implementation of the seventh pay commission.
The additional liability on the implementation of the seventh pay commission comes out to be Rs 100.12 crore for payment of arrears from January 1, 2016 to March 31, 2018 and Rs 33.51 crore for the payment of enhanced salary from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.
Moreover, the senate approved the names of two senate members- ambassador I S Chadha, IFS(Retd) and R S Jhanji, principal, A S College, Khanna as members of Board of Finance for a term of one year from February 1, 2018.
The senate adopted the minutes of the committee constituted by the V-C to examine the rate of interest on the Contributory Provident Fund and General Provident Fund, to be paid to the employees for the period April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2017. The senate also approved the recommendations of the committee, which had framed guidelines for creating and utilising PU Voluntary Contribution Fund.
The senate approved the roster prepared by the committee chaired by deam university instructions for the post of assistant professors. It approved the same fee structure, guidelines for NRI students seeking admission to PG/UG courses for 2017-18 as was applicable in the year 2016-17. However, it was also decided that fresh guidelines should be made for the next academic year.
