Rastriya Sayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the organisation is not a front for any political party and it is often misinterpreted. Bhagwat, who is on a five-day tour to Tripura, on Sunday said RSS believes in protecting the rights of every Indian and end to all atrocities.

While addressing saints in Agartala, he said: "India is a multi-religious and multicultural nation where every citizen has right to make his own choice and Sangh does not believe in interfering with the personal liberty. However, Sangh is committed to protecting the motherland." Bhagwat said: "RSS conducts Sakhas on daily basis with the volunteers. Sakha is about physical and mental exercises. It has nothing to do with religion."

Bhagwat expressed concern over the atrocities and violence on Hindu across the country, including Tripura. RSS has made a strong base among the tribals in Tripura where a third of the 60 assembly seats are reserved for tribals.

Bhagwat met organisational heads of different Sangh organisations of northeast India. Three states in the region, including Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, are going to polls early next year.

Bhagwat reviewed the working of different Sangh-affiliated bodies in Agartala.
