Cricket round-up: Umar powers PSD to victory against Zawawi

Invited to bat first, Zawawi lost track after making a solid start, slumping to 123 for 8 after being 88 for 1. 159 was all it could manage before being all out in 30 overs. Ramkumar Chinna topscored with 59 off 46 while Vonoth Kumar contributed 25 off 27.

Umar led the bowling honours, claiming four wickets While Chadith Lakmal and Ahammad Karim bagged two each.

It took PSD only 22 overs to overhaul the total, scoring 160 for 4 thanks to Umar’s vital knock of 50 off 53. Manjit Singh (33 off 32) and Imran Rijvi (26 not out off 17) were the other notable scorers. Asif Abdul Al Balushi claimed two wickets.

Shuaib shines in OCT Muscat win

Star Omani all-rounder Shuaib Ismail Al Balushi put up another impressive display with the bat and ball, steering OCT Muscat to an emphatic 9-wicket victory against Glory Bower Strikers in a Khimji Ramdas-sponsored A Division match at Ministry of Sports (MOS) ground 2 in Al Amerat on Friday.

Asked to bat first, Strikers cut a sorry figure facing up to excellent bowling by OCT Muscat and were dismissed for a meagre 104 in 26 overs. Vineet Pal Singh, the only batsman to score in double figures, topscored with an unbeaten 60 off 63 balls.

Shuaib, Wasim Ismail Al Balushi, Mohammed Ali Akbar Al Balushi and Zubair Akbar Al Balushi all bagged 2 wickets each.

OCT Muscat raced to the target in just 9.4 overs, thanks to Shuaib’s brilliant 67 not out off just 32 balls.

Sarco sink ISC

In another B Division game, match-winning performances by Sathisha Achary, Jeethesha Shridhara and Rakesh Patel led Sarco to 82-run win over Indian Social Club (ISC) at Muscat Municipality ground 2.

Batting first, Sarco scored 181 before being dismissed in the final over, thanks to 63-ball 79 by Sathisha and 30 off 35 by Jeethesha. Dipendra Dave, Mohammed Abbas Naqvi, Ansar Raza and Shrey Wilson took two wickets each.

ISC failed to pose a serious challenge, folding up for a paltry 99 in the 21st over. Bishen Singh topscored with 23 off 17. Rakesh Patel bagged three wickets while Jeethesha and Zahid Hafiz took two each.
