The lack of a regular principal finally put the DAV Institute of Engineering and technology (DAVIET) Daltonganj in the throes of crisis as the All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) has imposed ban on admissions in this college till 2019. The AICTE has put DAVIET under no admission category for two successive sessions 2017 -18 and 2018 -19.
However the AICTE has given 10 days time to this college to appeal for relief if it overcomes all the deficiencies or meet the conditions as pointed out by the AICTE.
The AICTE passed this order for no admission on December 12 and thus DAVIET has time to go for appeal till December 22.
Santosh Kumar principal DAVIET has confirmed this order of AICTE banning admission for sessions 2017 -18 and 2018 -19 but added there is a 10 day reprieve for us to seek a reconsideration of this order of no admission ban by AICTE.
Santosh Kumar is the sixth principal in the nine year history of this college which started imparted teaching only in 2008 and this appointment of Santosh Kumar here as principal is under cloud when the fact is that Kumar has both teaching experiences in Gangtok and has served as senior technical director in national informatics centre with a vast experience of 33 years.
DAVIET had no regular principal till 30.4.2017. A teacher of this college C S Tiwary was officiating this responsibility. Apex Court had given order that post of principal in technical colleges must be filled latest by 30 th of April. College management committee (CMC) the highest body that looks after and runs DAV institutes all over the country did make serious efforts and issued two advertisements wherein no candidate turned up and finally on June 5 this year Santosh Kumar was tipped to be the principal here but DAVIET had thus by then missed the deadline of 30 April and so AICTE just recommended to put this college under no admission category.
Further the AICTE was distressed to find just 23 faculty members working here as against the post of 52. Santosh Kumar said advertisement for these vacant posts was issued and a total of 60 candidates have applied interview and selection of which will be done by January end in New Year itself.
AICTE also found that this college had no ramp for disabled and proper wash room for them too. Santosh Kumar said the college is working hard to have these facilities quite sooner as it plans to have a lift in this 4 storeyed college building. Sources said as this college is in Palamu and Palamu is always in the news for wrong reasons like extremists’ violence, kidnapping, extortion, train hijacking done ten years back etc no candidate wants to come here for reasons of safety of life but with new scenario if safety Palamu’s image is in the changeover mode.
Sources said DAVIET has been plagued with factionalism in the past which is proving a stumbling block for it to rise now.
