A gunshot victim found overnight lying on a West Side street died from his injuries Saturday morning, a University Hospital official has confirmed .

San Antonio police officers responded about 2:17 a.m. to the corner of Dorris and South Calaveras streets after receiving a call for shots fired, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers found an unidentified man in the street in front of a running red sedan with its headlights on. The man was suffering from a gunshot to his abdomen and a large cut on his head. The man was unresponsive but taken to the hospital after emergency medical personnel detected a faint pulse.

The hospital official said the man later died at 4:27 a.m.

Police continue to investigate.
