Why not take a page from the playbook of those super smart people at the University of California, Berkeley, and build it right there where the old park sits now? Why not gut the old Coliseum and rebuild the interior to the A’s liking?
If the old Coliseum is structurally sound, there is no reason that it couldn’t be totally renovated internally, with new facilities, a gym and new seating. In addition, adding some seating around the baselines and perhaps additional skyboxes. Look at the old Cal Bears’ stadium; for a lot less than a completely new stadium, they in fact got a brand-new-stadium.
Instead of wasting a ton of money on finding new land to build on, spend the money on improvements. The Coliseum has the best access routes, with BART, easy-on and easy-off to the freeway. What more could a dedicated A’s fan want? Maybe a winning team.
