Arnautovic was finally escorted away from the dug-out where he had been given a mouthful from his old boss Hughes.

The Stoke boss was outraged over the spot-kick and accused Manuel Lanzini of diving – and pointed the finger at referee Graham Scott.

Hughes said: “You need referees to give match-defining decisions correctly.”
