An article published on Friday claiming president Trump hosted the NRA on the fifth anniversary of the Sandy Hook massacre has caused some controversy and distaste towards the White House.

The piece, posted by Shareblue.com, said Trump hosted the NRA and featured a photo of the president shaking hands with National Rifle Association chief Wayne La Pierre.

The headline in the Shareblue story made it seem like the event was for the NRA, but that is not the case. Furthermore, the photo was from a prior meeting between LaPierre and Trump.

Yes, LaPierre did visit the White House on the fifth anniversary of the horrible tragedy, but not because the president was hosting him personally. According to Snopes.com, LaPierre was simply one of the many people at Trump and Melania's holiday party, where many other leaders and representatives were in attendance. Holiday parties are frequent in the White House this time of year and the president often does not stay long.

Texas lieutenant governor Dan Patrick shared a post to his Facebook showing some of the guests and decor, including a photo with LaPierre. The photos do not show Trump near, or meeting with the head of the NRA.
