Work on war footing for model city: Kaushik

State Urban Development and Housing Minister Madan Kaushik has directed officials concerned to take action on war footing towards developing Dehradun into a smart and model city.The Minister said this while chairing a meeting on the subject here on Friday.

Kaushik said that encroachment will not be tolerated at any cost. The anti-encroachment drive will be conducted with full honesty and impartiality. Directing officials to work on war-footing, he said that where needed works should be conducted day and night. He told the district magistrate that two nodal officers should review the works sector-wise.

He also directed the municipal commissioner to form a team to impound items placed improperly on public space and keep the same in the municipal corporation. The practice of keeping collected garbage on the roads should be discontinued and the city roads should be kept clean. Construction materials kept on the road should be confiscated.

The observance of vending zones should also be ensured. He told the superintendent of police (Traffic) to ensure parking facility, adding that home guards should ensure vehicles are not parked on the road. The MDDA, PWD and police will ensure application of yellow and white reflective paint to designate parking, centre line, diagonal parking, zebra crossing and footpaths.

The DM and SSP were directed to tour the ‘model route’ from ISBT to Clock Tower daily. It was claimed in the meeting that the government will make the city encroachment-free. Dehradun DM SA Murugesan, SSP Nivedita Kukreti, MDDA vice chairman Ashish Srivastav and secretary PC Dumka, municipal commissioner Vijay Kumar Jogdande and other departmental officials were also present in the meeting.
