Ajman: The financially-challenged patients with huge medical bills have been granted the opportunity to meet and cover their bills by the Ajman-based Human Appeal International (HAI).
“We started a ‘Weekly Campaign’ initiative from August, and we have so far covered 21 cases amounting to slightly over a million Dirham,” said the Executive Director of the charity, Khalid Abdul Wahab AlKhajah.
He said they specify the cases to prioritise their acute need. “On our table are severe cases of cancer, dialysis recommendations, nasal (ear) issues among others. There are several gripping, shocking cases!”
Alkhajah said last week they covered a case of Dhs40,000. “It is not the most expensive one,” he quipped; “we have had a case of a 9-year-old child who is fighting cancer which cost us Dhs155,000.”
By the end of October, HAI had covered 15 cases that cost Dhs873,000, but “now we have covered 21 cases,” said Alkhajah from the offices of his organisation, that is key to supporting orphans and refugees within and outside the United Arab Emirates.
On the campaign of Dhs1 charity where a donor uses Etisalat line to send an sms (Giving) to 1110, and thus giving the charity Dhs1, Alkhajah said the response is overwhelming.
“This is largely because it has simplified the method of donation and has cast the net wide open to reach whoever wants to donate.”
