Taxes will rise by 1.8 per cent in Leamington after council approved a 2018 budget that includes $29.5 million in capital infrastructure projects.
That translates into an extra $36 on the tax bill for an urban home assessed at $175,000.
“This year’s budget is a sustainable and responsible budget that will provide and enhance services to the Municipality of Leamington,” said Mayor John Paterson. “Our goal is to improve the quality of life for our residents.”
Councillors approved the budget Wednesday after two days of deliberation.
“We will see significant investment throughout our community, while also maintaining healthy reserves of $54 million,” Paterson said.
The town will continue to invest in the Pelee Drive-Bevel Line sanitary sewer project as well sewer separation along Erie Street South.
Cycling lanes along Seacliff Drive (County Road 20) will address ongoing commitments to active transportation infrastructure needs in the community, Paterson said.
Mill Street revitalization and improvements along Leamington’s waterfront and parks will also continue.
The final budget will be available to view online at www.leamington.ca.
