Imphal to Saikul Road to be blocked from Dec 16

Imphal, December 15 2017: Until the road construction starts, the Imphal to Saikul Road will be blocked from Dec16, announ-ced the Peace and Development Coordinating Committee, Khundrakpam A/C and Neigh-bouring Saikul A/C .

At a meeting with media-persons at the Manipur Press Club, the Peace and Development Coordinating Com- mittee’s general secretary Thoudam Hemjit informed that the work order was issued on May 24, 2016 by the then Government.

Despite having the work order, he said, the contractor has not started work, which has created too much inconveniences to the locals .

In this regard, the committee had written to the Biren Government on Dec 3 mentioning about the protest to block the road if construction did not start by Dec 15, Hemjit said while adding no work has started so far and thus, the committee will carry on its campaign and start blocking the road .

The committee also condemned the apathy of former MLA and speaker Th Lokeshwor who did nothing despite being informed about the plight of the people, he expressed.

He said that the firm of the Khundrakpam’s MLA is included amongst the contractors who are in possession of the work order .

One of the consequences of the bad road condition has been the recurring accidents but the MLA has been turning a blind eye to the disaster, the general secretary conveyed while adding his action is highly condemnable .

He further charged that it’s not only the MLA now but also the Government which has ignored the people’s grievance so the Peace and Development Coordinating Committee, Khundrakpam A/C and Neighbouring Saikul A/C will resort to blocking the road.
