Windsor police have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with the Islamic-themed spray-painted messages that appeared this week on the Windsor Star as well as other media outlets and Ouellette Avenue bus shelters.

According to a news release, patrol officers were dispatched at noon Friday to the 300 block of Chatham Street West for a report of a suspicious person.

An employee reported a man who appeared to match the description of the vandal in the area. Officers arrested the man without incident. He faces numerous counts of mischief related to property damage.

The property damage occurred in the downtown Wednesday and police thanked the media — the Star had video surveillance of the vandal — and the community for spreading the word and helping to locate a suspect.
