Laid to rest at Chashma Hill

CHITTAGONG, Dec 15: People of Chittagong Port City bade farewell to their beloved leader ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury on Friday.
Nearly half a million people attended the namaj-e janaza for President of Chittagong City unit of Awami League and former mayor of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury at Lal Dighi Maidan in the afternoon.
Mohiuddin Chowdhury passed away at city's Max Hospital early Friday. He was 74. He left his two sons, two daughters, wife and a host of relatives, friends, well-wishers and a large number of political  fellows to mourn his death.
Hearing the news of his death, people from all walks of life, including the local AL leaders and workers rushed to his residence at Chasma Hill to pay tribute to their leader.
Mohiuddin Chowdhury was buried with full state honour beside his father's grave at Chasma Hill family graveyard in the port city.

Ashraful Islam, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif, State Minister for Public Administration Begum Ismat Ara Sadique and Chittagong city Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin issued separate condolence messages.
They expressed profound shock and condolence at the death of Mohiuddin Chowdhury and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul. They also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Recalling his contribution to the country and its people, they said
the loss caused in his death is irreparable.
Chowdhury had been suffering from heart and kidney complications for long. He was put on life support at Max Hospital at Mehedibagh in the port city on Thursday evening.

Chittagong Press Club, Chittagong Union of Journalists, Chittagong
Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Chittagong Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Chittagong Woman Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Chittagong University and Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology mourned the death of Mohiuddin.
In separate condolence messages, they expressed their deep shock at
the sad demise of Mohiuddin, one of the organiser of the Liberation War.
Three times elected mayor of Chittagong City,  Mohiuddin was admitted to a private clinic of the hospitals at 11:00pm on November 11 with kidney and heart ailments.
As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Dhaka Square Hospital by a helicopter on November 13 . On November 16, he was shifted to Singapore for better treatment and returned to the country on November 26.
