Missions abroad celebrate Victory Day

Bangladesh missions abroad paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War, while celebrating the Victory Day on Saturday, reports UNB.

Tribute was also paid to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman under whose leadership Bangladesh gained independence through a nine-month bloody war against Pakistan.

The missions celebrated the day with elaborate programmes, including hoisting of the national flag, discussion meetings and cultural functions.

Special prayers were offered seeking divine blessings for the martyrs of the Liberation War and Bangabandhu and his family members, killed along with him on the tragic night of August 15, 1975.

Messages from President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam were read out by heads and officials of the missions, according to messages received here.

Discussants fondly remembered the supreme sacrifices the freedom fighters had made at the call of Bangabandhu against the brutal Pakistani soldiers who carried out one of the history's worst genocides killing three million unarmed civilians.

Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Mumbai hosted a film screening of the movie 'Guerilla' at National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai marking the day.

The Deputy High Commissioner, Md Lutfor Rahman, started the programme by hoisting the national flag, while the national anthem was played.

Besides, Bangladesh Embassy in Thailand celebrated the glorious 47th Victory Day this morning with colorful festivities.

Programme of the day included hoisting of the National Flag at full mast by Ambassador Saida Muna Tasneem at the Chancery in presence of large numbers of expatriate Bangladeshis living in Thailand and officers of the Embassy.

A colorful cultural soiree comprising the iconic 1971 Betar Bangla victory songs, patriotic dances and poetry recitations were presented at the celebratory event participated by more than 300 expatriate Bangladeshis living in Thailand.

The celebration of the 47th Victory Day ended with a reception where homemade Bangladeshi foods were served.

The Bangladesh High Commission in Singapore celebrated the 47th Victory Day of Bangladesh in a befitting manner and with due fervor.


Members of expatriate Bangladeshi community in Singapore and officials of the High Commission participated in a day-long programme.

A discussion meeting was held in the afternoon at the High Commission auditorium.

The discussion was followed by a delightful cultural show featuring Bangla patriotic songs and dance performances by members of expatriate Bangladeshis in Singapore.

The day-long programme ended with dinner. Both the cultural presentation and the dinner were enjoyed by a large number of guests.

Besides, the New Delhi mission of Bangladesh High Commission and Embassy of Bangladesh Paris in France also celebrated the Victory Day with various programmes.
